The core's power attracted a new threat-a species of energy beings, drawn to Jupiter's immense energy. Captain Elena Vasquez stood on the bridge of the Odyssey, studying the sensors.

"Command, this is Vasquez. We have incoming hostiles."

"Copy, Odyssey. Identify them."

Kaelen appeared beside her. "They are the Radiants. They feed on energy."

"Can they be reasoned with?"

"We don't know. But we need to try."

Elena opened a channel. "This is Captain Vasquez of the alliance. We come in peace."

The Radiants surrounded the ship, their forms flickering.

"You have something we need," they said. "Share your energy, or we will take it."

"We can share," Elena said. "But we need to survive too."

The Radiants pulsed, considering.

"Then we will trade. Energy for knowledge."

The alliance agreed, sharing energy in exchange for the Radiants' wisdom.

"Command, the Radiants have agreed to a truce."

"Copy, Odyssey. Good work. Come home."

Elena looked at the Radiants, at the future, at the new alliance.

Jupiter was no longer just a planet.

It was a meeting place.

The end.

Copy Math
Get best price for Copy Math By Rapid Delivery Services, You can order it online at https://www.rapiddeliveryservices.in/buy-rds-products-online-9194.html

December brought salvation in the form of ships.

Michael stood on the beach, watching the First Marine Division board transport ships. They'd been on Guadalcanal for four months. Malaria, dysentery, hunger, and constant fighting had reduced them to skeletons.

But they'd held.

"Hard to believe it's over," Okubo said beside him. The boy had survived. Grown into a soldier.

"It's not over. Just over for us." Michael looked at the island one last time. The jungle still hid Japanese soldiers. The airfield still operated. But the crisis had passed. Guadalcanal was secure.

They boarded the ship. As it pulled away, men lined the rails, staring at the island that had almost killed them.

Morrison appeared beside Michael. "What are you thinking?"

Michael thought about Billy, somewhere in a hospital in California. About the men who hadn't made it. About the faces of the Japanese soldiers he'd killed.

"I'm thinking I never want to see another island," he said.

Morrison nodded. "Me neither. But we will."

They stood together as Guadalcanal faded into the horizon.

Behind them, months of hell.

Ahead, more islands. More battles. More death.

But for one moment, there was only the sea, and the ship, and the knowledge that they'd survived.

Okubo joined them. "Where next?"

"Doesn't matter," Michael said. "We'll be there."

The ship chugged toward Australia, toward rest, toward whatever came next.

Somewhere in the Pacific, the war continued.

But for Michael Tanaka, this chapter was closed.
